SEO Pricing in Chennai 2026: What Does It Actually Cost?
Published SEO prices in Chennai run from ₹15,000 to over ₹3,00,000 a month, and the gap is not random. Here is what drives it, what each band buys, and how to tell a fair quote from an expensive guess.
What Chennai SEO agencies actually publish
Most agencies hide their prices, so we collected every public number we could find on 4 November 2026. The spread alone tells you something.
| Source | Published figure per month | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Henry Harvin, “11 Best SEO Agencies in Chennai” (FAQ) | ₹5,000 to ₹25,000 | No source or scope given for the range |
| Oniv Digital, SEO packages Chennai (2023) | From ₹15,000 local, ₹35,000 SaaS, ₹40,000 ecommerce, ₹80,000 enterprise | “Starting” prices, inclusions not listed |
| Ayatiworks, SEO services guide (2026) | “Around ₹45,000” for a holistic campaign, ₹40,000 to ₹50,000 for basic campaigns | Calls its own figures ballpark ranges |
| Ayatiworks, “Top 10 SEO agencies” list, startup tier | ₹25,000 to ₹75,000 | Its own FAQ on that page says ₹40,000 to ₹3,00,000 |
| Ayatiworks, same list, growth tier | ₹80,000 to ₹2,00,000 | |
| Ayatiworks, same list, enterprise tier | ₹3,00,000 to ₹10,00,000+ | |
| DigeHub, starter | ₹40,000 to ₹60,000 | Single location, single industry |
| DigeHub, growth | ₹65,000 to ₹1,20,000 | Multi-area, competitive keywords |
| DigeHub, enterprise | From ₹1,20,000 | Multi-location, high competition |
Three things stand out. First, a single company can publish different numbers in different places: Ayatiworks’ own SEO guide says campaigns start around ₹45,000, while its list of agencies uses a startup tier of ₹25,000 to ₹75,000 and an FAQ range of ₹40,000 to ₹3,00,000. Second, the cheapest figure (₹5,000 to ₹25,000) has no stated scope at all. At that price a team can spend only a few hours a month on your site, and nobody can honestly promise a result from that. Third, most published prices cluster between ₹40,000 and ₹75,000 for a basic campaign, which is where our own starter plan sits.

What actually drives the price of SEO in Chennai
SEO is mostly people’s time, so price follows how many hours the job needs and how senior those hours are. Seven things move the number.
1. How competitive your searches are
Ranking for “dentist in Anna Nagar” is a different job from ranking for “ERP software India”. The more established pages already hold the results, the more content, links and technical polish you need before you can compete. Ahrefs’ study found that the average page in the number one spot is around five years old, and that only 1.74% of new pages reach the top ten within a year. Competitive terms need more sustained effort, and sustained effort costs more.
2. How many locations and neighbourhoods
One clinic in Adyar and a chain with branches across Velachery, OMR and Tambaram are different projects. Each location needs its own Google Business Profile, its own landing page and its own reviews. That is why scope jumps between our starter and growth plans.
3. Where your website starts
A fast, clean, crawlable site costs less to optimise than one with duplicate pages, slow templates and broken structure. Google measures page experience against thresholds like an LCP of 2.5 seconds or under and INP of 200 milliseconds or under. Fixing a site that misses them is real work, and some of it lands in the first months as a one-off cost of the engagement.
4. How much content is needed
Content is where most of the hours go. A service business may need eight good pages. An online store may need hundreds of category and product descriptions. A SaaS firm may need a steady stream of articles. Ask for the number of pages per month in writing.
5. Link building and digital PR
Earning links takes outreach, relationships and content worth citing. Quotes with a high link budget cost more, and quotes that promise a fixed number of links for a low price usually involve shortcuts. See our link building guide for Chennai businesses for what is worth paying for.
6. Reporting and access
Dashboards tied to enquiries and revenue take more time than a monthly rank screenshot. They are also the part that shows whether the money is working.
7. AI search work
More agencies now bundle AI visibility, meaning making your brand easier for ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI answers to find and cite. It adds tracking, entity and citation work on top of classic SEO. Our growth plan includes it, and we explain the details in AI search visibility for Chennai businesses.
The four ways agencies charge
| Model | How it works | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly retainer | Fixed fee for a defined list of tasks each month | Most Chennai businesses, because SEO compounds over time | Vague deliverables like “SEO services” |
| One-time project | A fixed price for an audit, migration or site rebuild | A technical fix, a relaunch, a one-off cleanup | Rankings need upkeep, so results can decay |
| Hourly or day rate | You pay for time spent by a consultant | Advice, audits, training your in-house team | Open-ended bills if scope is not capped |
| Pay on performance | Fee tied to rankings or leads | Rarely a good idea in SEO | Gaming easy keywords or low-quality leads, no control over Google |
We run month to month with no lock-in contract, which is also how we would recommend you buy SEO anywhere. If an agency is confident in what it does, it does not need a twelve-month contract to keep you.
What each price band should buy you
These are our own published plans, shown as an example of how scope should line up with price. Whoever you hire, ask for the same breakdown.
Starter: ₹40,000 to ₹60,000 a month
For a single location and a single industry. This covers technical and on-page fixes, Google Business Profile and map pack work, two to four backlinks a month and a monthly ranking report. It suits a clinic, a coaching centre, a local service company or a single-store retailer that needs to be found in its own part of the city.
Growth: ₹65,000 to ₹1,20,000 a month
For several service areas or a market with strong competition. Adds neighbourhood pages for areas such as Adyar and OMR, ongoing content and blog production, our AI visibility work across LLMO, GEO and AEO, and weekly reporting tied to revenue. It suits multi-branch businesses, ecommerce brands and B2B firms that sell beyond Chennai.
Enterprise: ₹1,20,000 and above
For multi-location, high-competition programmes. Brings a dedicated strategist and content team, link building with digital PR, and SEO and AI visibility across all major platforms.
Do not choose a band by budget alone. Choose it by the number of locations, the number of services you want to rank for and how crowded your market is. If you are unsure, send us your site and we will tell you which band fits, including when the answer is the cheaper one.

How the price shifts by type of Chennai business
The plan a business needs depends less on its size than on how its customers search. Here is how that usually plays out in Chennai.
| Business | Usual fit | Why | More detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single clinic, salon, tutor or repair service | Starter | Customers search “near me” and by neighbourhood, so the work centres on Google Business Profile, reviews and a few strong pages | Dental SEO, Business Profile guide |
| Small business with a handful of services | Starter, sometimes growth | More pages to build, but a narrow geography | SEO for small business |
| Builder, broker or plot seller | Growth | Many neighbourhoods, many project pages, long buying cycle | Real estate SEO |
| Online store | Growth | Large catalogue, category structure, speed and schema work | Ecommerce SEO |
| SaaS or IT services firm | Growth or enterprise | National or global keywords, heavy content and link needs | SEO for SaaS and IT |
| Manufacturer or industrial supplier | Growth | Technical product catalogues, long B2B research cycles | B2B manufacturing SEO |
| Funded startup | Growth, then reassess | Needs speed but has no authority yet | SEO for startups |
How to read a quote line by line
When a proposal arrives, look for these lines. A good one answers each in plain language. A weak one skips most.
- Scope per month. The number of pages created or improved, links earned, reports and calls.
- Goals. Enquiries, calls or orders from search, not just rankings. Rankings are a means to an end.
- Timeline. An honest plan says what happens in month one, month three and month six, and says plainly that it is an estimate.
- Exclusions. What is not included, such as development, paid ads or content in Tamil.
- Ownership and exit. You own the accounts and content, and you can stop with a short notice.
If a proposal is two pages of generic text with a total at the bottom, you are looking at a template. Ask for a version written for your site.
How to check whether a quote makes sense: a break-even test
You can sanity-check any quote with two numbers: what a new customer is worth to you, and how many extra customers you need to cover the fee. The example below is hypothetical, so use your own figures.
| Step | Example |
|---|---|
| Value of a new customer in the first year, after your costs | ₹6,000 |
| Monthly SEO fee | ₹50,000 |
| Extra customers per month needed to break even | ₹50,000 divided by ₹6,000, so about 9 |
| Months before SEO usually pays back | Depends on how long rankings take, often well beyond three months |
The point is timing. SEO is not instant, and the early months are an investment. Our guide to how long SEO takes in Chennai sets realistic expectations. If nine extra customers a month looks impossible for your business at that price, either the fee is too high for your market or SEO is not the right first channel. That is a useful finding, and a good agency will tell you so.
Why very cheap SEO often costs more in the end
- The hours do not exist. At a very low monthly fee, the maths on hours does not leave room for research, content or outreach.
- Shortcuts create risk. Bulk directory links, copied pages and scraped content can trigger quality problems that take months to undo.
- You may not own the work. Ask who owns the website, Search Console, Analytics and Business Profile accounts. They should be yours.
- Reports show activity, not outcomes. Hundreds of tasks completed is not the same as more enquiries.
Expensive is not automatically safer either. A high price with the same vague scope is the same risk with a bigger bill. Five steps before you ask for a quote
- Write down the three searches that matter. For example “dentist in Velachery” or “ERP implementation Chennai”.
- Count your locations and services. This sets the band more than anything.
- Know your customer value. Use the break-even test above.
- Ask for the deliverables list. Pages, links, reports, meetings, per month.
- Ask for a month-to-month option. If it is refused, ask why.

Frequently asked questions
How much does SEO cost in Chennai per month?
Published figures range from about ₹15,000 for basic local work to above ₹3,00,000 for large programmes. For one location in one industry, our plans start at ₹40,000. For several areas or a competitive market, they run from ₹65,000 to ₹1,20,000.
Is cheap SEO in Chennai worth it?
Sometimes for a one-time fix, rarely for ongoing growth. At very low fees there is not enough time to do research, content and outreach properly, so ask exactly what is delivered each month.
Do I pay a setup fee for SEO?
Some agencies charge a one-time audit or setup fee, and some fold it into the first months. Ask for it in writing and check what it covers.
Why do two quotes for the same website differ so much?
Usually scope. One may include content, links and reporting, and the other only a few on-page changes. Compare deliverables line by line, not totals.
How long before I see a return?
It depends on competition and where your site starts. Ahrefs found that only a small share of new pages reach the top ten within a year, so plan for months, not weeks.
Can I pay for SEO only when I get results?
Be careful. Performance pricing tends to push agencies towards easy keywords and low-value leads, and nobody controls Google. A transparent retainer with clear reporting is usually safer.
